Don’t Let that Man-go!

Is what you would expect to hear at the end of a bad dad joke.

A pun that never really had much going for it.

But truth be told, there’s nothing funny about the on-going mango shortage. It isn’t even time to start harvesting crops in Mexico and we already know the situation is going to be a tough one. Retailers, Packers, Manufacturers, and everyone in between are still dealing with the massive deficit from the 2020 Harvest in Mexico.

Weather is a temperamental and often unforgiving force.

Peru Mango as of 02192021.jpg

La Niña storms extended longer than initially anticipated and the additional rainfall destroyed a large portion of the fruit while it was still in it’s early stages. Exports out of Peru have started to increase, but with the season starting later in the year and also being substantially lower than YOY numbers, this put unexpected pressures on current mango prices.

YOY price per box was up almost 81% at it’s peak W/E 1/23. Since then, prices have started to come down, but are still trending at 59% higher than the same time last year as of 2/13 .

This is all a long way of saying - if you have access to Mango for 2021, don’t let it go!
